CSCS card updates

As of the 31st December 2024 it will no longer be possible to renew CSCS Industry Accreditation (IA) Cards from the CITB. These cards were often referred to as the “grandfather rights” cards. Cards which were originally issued to allow experienced workers to gain CSCS competency cards without requiring formal qualifications (such as NVQ’s). Many workers have been renewing these cards every 5 years for some time.

From the end of this year, these cards will not be renewed. This means that if you or an employee originally gained your card via “grandfather rights” then you will not be able to get a new one. The only way to obtain or renew a CSCS card will be with a formal qualification.

These changes will affect many of the cards from black site management cards to the blue skilled worker cards. Obtaining the correct qualifications does not necessarily require college courses, often the qualification can be achieved with ‘on-site assessment’, but one way or another a qualification must be held to get a new card.

If your card was obtained via the IA route (check the card if you are not sure) you will need to start planning for your next one as soon as possible. Follow the flow charts at the link below to find out what the next move is. https://www.cscs.uk.com/about/industry-accreditation/
